Privacy Policy

Effective 25 October 2026. Applies to the Remarq app for iPhone and iPad and to this website.

1. Who operates Remarq

Remarq is made and run by one person, not a company. For what this page describes, that person is the data controller under Turkish law (KVKK) and under the GDPR, and their identity is available on request at the address below.

2. The short version

  • Remarq works without an account. There is no sign-in anywhere in the app.
  • Your notes never reach the developer. Recordings, transcripts and the items you share stay on your device and, when iCloud is on, in your own private iCloud.
  • Transcription and reading the text on screen both run on your device.
  • No advertising, no advertising identifier, no third party analytics or crash-reporting SDK, no profiling, and nothing sold or shared.
  • Remarq has no server, so there is no server-side data to delete.

3. What stays on your device

All of the following is stored on your device, inside Remarq’s own storage, and is deleted when you delete the app:

  • The voice notes you record, as audio files.
  • Their transcripts, and the language each was transcribed in.
  • A small copy of each screenshot or photo you share, and a small preview of each video or screen recording.
  • For a video, its length, its creation date and a short fingerprint of the file, used only to find its original in your Photos library.
  • The text Remarq reads from your screenshots and photos, so you can search it.
  • Your settings.

4. What leaves your device, when, and why

5. Permissions

  • Microphone, to record your voice notes. Remarq listens only while you record.
  • Speech Recognition, to turn your voice into searchable text on your device.
  • Photos, optional. It lets you add items from inside the app and lets Remarq find the original of a video you shared, by comparing its length, date and fingerprint on the device. Remarq does not scan your library in the background or send anything from it. If you choose to save a note to your photo library, iOS asks separately for permission to add to it.

You can change each of these at any time in the iOS Settings app.

6. iCloud

Syncing uses Apple’s iCloud and your private iCloud database, under Apple’s own privacy policy. It is on when iCloud is on for Remarq in the iOS Settings app; turn it off there and Remarq keeps working on the device alone. To remove what is already in iCloud, delete Remarq’s data from your iCloud storage in the iOS Settings app.

7. What Remarq does not do

  • No advertising, anywhere in the app.
  • No advertising identifier and no App Tracking Transparency prompt, because there is nothing to track you with.
  • No third party SDK of any kind.
  • No account, so nothing to sell, share or leak from one.
  • No server of its own, so nothing of yours is ever sent to the developer.
  • No access to your contacts, calendar, camera or location.

8. This website

This website sets no cookies and loads nothing from third parties. It remembers your light or dark theme and language choice in your own browser’s storage, and nothing else. The hosting provider (Cloudflare) processes ordinary request data, such as your IP address, to deliver the pages.

Under the GDPR (article 6) and KVKK (article 5), the processing described here rests on:

  • Performance of a contract, for everything needed to deliver the app you asked for: recording, transcribing, storing and searching your notes.
  • Explicit consent, for microphone, speech recognition and Photos access, granted through the iOS permission prompts and withdrawable in Settings at any time.

10. How long things are kept

  • On your device: until you delete the note, or delete the app.
  • In your iCloud: until you delete the note, or remove Remarq’s data from your iCloud storage.
  • Support email: as long as needed to resolve the matter, and no more than two years.

11. Your rights

Under KVKK article 11 and GDPR articles 15 to 22 you may ask to learn whether your data is processed, obtain a copy of it, have it corrected, have it deleted, object to processing, receive it in a portable form, or withdraw a consent you gave. Because Remarq holds nothing about you outside your own device and your own iCloud, the fastest way to exercise most of these is directly there: delete a note, delete the app, or remove its iCloud data.

For anything else, reach the developer through the support page. Requests are answered within 30 days, which is the KVKK deadline and inside the GDPR’s.

If you believe your rights have been breached you may complain to the Turkish Personal Data Protection Authority (KVKK Kurumu) or, in the EEA, to your local supervisory authority.

12. Children

Remarq is not directed at children. It does not knowingly collect data from children under 13, and since nothing reaches the developer, there is little for that to mean in practice. If you believe a child has written to us by email, tell us and it will be deleted.

13. What the App Store privacy label says

  • Data linked to you: none.
  • Data not linked to you: none.
  • Data used to track you: none.

14. Changes

If this policy changes, the effective date at the top changes with it, and a change that materially affects you will be announced in the app before it takes effect rather than after.
